By your own reckoning, you are finally
ready for the fifth tier onMaslow'shierarchy of
needs…self actualization. Whatdoes
self- actualization mean to you in both concrete as well as abstract terms?
Please list out your action plan for
tier five, and sum up the long road behind, strewn with achievements and
laurels, identifying your time-saving strategies which made it possible.
Q20.The Fifth Element
Furnished below is an example of what we think may be a
possible response:
The years had taught the importance of
having with me the right type of people who shared my vision of the future and
shared my ideas of how to get there. They had to be located, trained and
motivated, with judicious doses of delegation and supervision to achieve their
own personal goals within the overall organizational goals. I learnt the value
of transparency, friendliness, need to adhere to deadlines, to admit mistakes
and rectify them, to identify the time-wasting practices that inevitably creep
into operations, and to consciously go about eliminating them, to learn a style
of leadership peculiarly my own, and to avoid to talking down to people.
Self-actualization
would involve dove-tailing personal/ spiritual values and goals with those of
the organization, achieving them as far as possible and to reconcile myself to
the inevitability of the ageing process which brings so much satisfaction and
reward. It would also involve achievement of personal ambitions and material
well-being, within theeternal
values of the universe as well, within my own limitations. No one could want
more.
