Visual aids are literally visual inputs to enhance, and retain, learning, the brain being much more likely to retain information when it is accompanied by visual, audio, audio, olfactory or other sensory supporting-data.  A whiff of home cooking or a rainbow in a fountain can evoke memories of home, maybe a hemi- sphere away! Salesmen and grocers use this knowledge all the time, insisting that you feel the material or sniff the mango! Basically the same techniques are used in boardroom and classroom presentations. Some tips to keep in mind for this:
 

They vary in complexity, but keep it simple! Get two or three fundamentals across clearly, rather than explain the whole thing and have no one remember anything.

Practice smooth integration of oral and visual data.
 

Flip charts: use for brainstorming, building-up graphs, budget statements, etc., and write BIG!

White boards are widely used but use water-based pens so that writing will rub off!

Overhead projectors, many palm-top compatible, can be very effective. Use bold cartoons, line images and graphics.

Slides/ readymade training films: they have a cost-benefit angle, but are really good.
