Be an effective time manager

“Today, like any other day in history is a good one, if we know what to do with it.”

-Anonymous

When you perceive yourself as someone with a high sense of responsibility towards the present moment you will become just the same.

No one who does not use his time wisely can have a high self-esteem. You become the image you carry about yourself. You will unconsciously be asking, “I am an excellent time-manager. And as an excellent time-manager what is it that I must be doing now?”

The quality of an organization is known by the image its people have about themselves and their organization. The image people have about themselves or their organization in turn depends upon the way they use their time.

Do it now

We are not aware of the present moment until it becomes the past. A poster in front of your table saying: “Is what you are thinking or doing now, the best use of the present moment? If not, you can switch over to it right now!'' can help. Catch yourself whenever you are thinking about matters unrelated to the task at hand and bring your attention back to it. Develop this into a habit.

Use every minute optimally

The failure to realize the importance of time management often stems from the lack of conviction that there is a purpose for which one is alive. Lack of will results in an inability to appreciate the importance of being aware of the present moment and using it optimally. Misplaced priorities further reinforce this tendency.

See how you can utilize the time-slots which you spend doing nothing, e.g. you can listen to an educational cassette while taking bath or while shaving. You can dictate a letter in the dictaphone, read a journal or do a vivid mental-rehearsal of all the things you would be doing sequentially during the day while commuting.

Know what you want

Time management is not possible without self-knowledge. Everything else can and must wait till you discover what you are meant for. Take leave from your work. Spend a day or a week or even a month but do find out the purpose you have to devote your life to. One good book that can guide you in this venture is ‘Finding Your Perfect Work' by Paul and Sarah Edwards.

Create time

Create time by believing that you have enough of it for all that you wish to do in life. Ask yourself what you want to do. Stop investing any time in doing things that you don't want to do.
