Positive results can come only when you refrain from negative thoughts such as, “Life is full of struggle”, “I am unfortunate”, “The world is too bad a place to live in”, “There is too much of competition”. Such thoughts prove to be true for the person who thinks them. For example, the thought, “Money is bad” though not true (Money surely is not bad. The way people use it - for self-defeating purposes - is bad), may discourage one to earn money, and keep money from flowing into his life.

Pen your thoughts

Often patterns of negative thinking become too formidable and don't leave us so easily. For example, there are occasions when you feel that you are going through some injustice, some misunderstanding or you are feeling hurt. At such times, instead of getting bogged down, it helps if you write everything that you are getting perturbed about and then tear it up. This helps you to start afresh all over again on a clean slate.

Visualize effectively

Try the following exercise to bring about a dramatic improvement in your thoughts:

Fig 28

Imagine that the conversation you are having with yourself, can be controlled by an imaginary knob.

  • Go on increasing the volume of your conversation.

  • Are you hearing it louder now?

  • If yes, gradually tune down the volume so that it finally becomes hardly audible.

  • Do it again if required. Repeat it four to five times.

Fig 29

Go back to a time in the past when you felt very happy and enthusiastic.

  • What kind of conversation were you having with yourself at that time?

  • Imagine that you have changed the frequency and as a result you are going to hear this conversation now.

  • Now go on increasing the volume of this conversation and the sounds associated with that pleasant experience using the same knob.

  • If you can also recall the visuals relating to that experience fine-tune these visuals too. Make them sharper and bigger.
