Managing innovation

Innovation is finding new, different and better ways of doing the existing tasks. It is the additional value it imparts to the existing services or products.

Very often it is the customer himself who provides the source of innovation. A study conducted by James Otterback revealed that 75% of ideas for innovations comes from the users.

As a manager you can innovate by:

·                     Maintaining close contacts and relations with customers.

·                     Training your sales team to be aware of information, ideas, suggestions, complaints and criticism and feed it back to the company.

·                     Studying the market

·                     Understanding the user's need.

·                     Involving potential users in the development of the innovation.

·                     Forging a direct link between the customer and the company

·                     Keeping track of the improvements in the field of technology.
